Un preamplificatore phono dovrebbe fare una sola cosa: offrire una riproduzione senza rumore e altri artifici. Questo è il compito di Vincent PHO-500, almeno secondo la casa tedesca. La ragione di questo approccio è da ricercare nella caratteristica estetica di questo prodotto, che risulta piuttosto inusuale ma al tempo stesso molto comprensibile. Invece di optare per una soluzione con alimentazione esterna (come nel caso del Vincent PHO-200), il dispositivo in questione sceglie una struttura integrata. Il lato inferiore dell’apparecchio, allora, ospita proprio l’alimentatore, mentre il preamplificatore è posto “al secondo piano”.

Parlando delle specifiche tecniche, va sottolineata la risposta in frequenza, inclusa tra 10 Hz e 20 khz, con distorsione armonica totale inferiore allo 0,05% e impedenza in uscita su 250 Ohm. Gli altri dati devono essere necessariamente declinati per l’utilizzo di cartucce MM (magnete mobile) ed MC (bobina mobile), entrambe supportate. Il rapporto segnale/rumore, ad esempio, è superiore a 83 dB per le MM e più di 70 dB per le MC. Il carico massimo per le MM è su 47 kOhm, mentre per le MC va da 100 a 1000 Ohm.
