Now we are going to analyze one by one the most sought-after vinyls on this list, with their listing and a brief historical contextualization.
Prince - the Black Album
Sold for: $27,500
Themystery album, which immediately became a cult object among fans because it was withdrawn within weeks of release at Prince's own behest.
The year was 1987, and it was the 16th studio album for the Purple Rain author. The reason for the astronomical prices of this vinyl lies precisely in the few original copies that were scattered around the world after the first release. In 1994 the record was reissued, but it is evident that the very first original versions are still coveted by many.
Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen
Sold for: $16,125.18
The second album by the band that changed the world punk rock scene forever. With God Save The Queen, to the cry of "No future!", the Sex Pistols fully hit their goal, which was to shock and make the public think, in the year of Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, 1978.
Ending up on the list of most sought-after records and vinyl are copies released by the A&M label, predating the band's move with Virgin.
Ferris Wheel - Supernatural Girl
Sold for: $15,001.77
Another album surrounded by an aura of mystery and - we would almost say - mysticism. Supernatural Girl is dated 1975 and is universally considered the rarest stoner-folk-rock album in the UK.
12 tracks that delve into underground folk to provide a unique sonic experience. It is not totally known how many original copies are still in circulation. What is certain is that those who own one have a real treasure in their hands.
The Beatles - Love Me Do
Sold for: $14,845.17
In such a ranking one could not miss The Beatles. Who, however, are not featured with the legendary White Album, as one would be led to believe, but with a copy of the single Love Me Do.
This is not just another song. This is the Liverpool group's first single, released in 1962 by Parlophone. You could say that the adventure of Paul, John, Ringo and George began with this ballad of just a couple of minutes. The rest, as is often said, is history....
Pink Floyd - Ummagumma
Sold for: $13,845.84
After the Beatles, of course there is Pink Floyd. Roger Waters and co. don't place themselves on the charts with a few copies of The Dark Side of the Moon, which also remains firmly at the top of the best-selling collectible vinyl chart. Instead, the record dreamed up by fans is Ummagumma, a 1969 work that mixes live and studio performances.
According to Waters and David Gilmour, the record was to be considered an experiment gone wrong. So bad that today some original copies fetch more than $10,000...
Billy Nicholls - Would You Believe
Sold for: $9,851.06
Would You Believe falls on the list of collectible vinyl records mainly because of its limited availability. There are no more than 100 original copies, and moreover, these are promotional records, released in 1968-the year the recording was released-before it hit the mass market.
The album was reissued in 1998 for a fascinating experiment mixing pop and psychedelic rock.
Röyksopp - Melody A.M.
Sold for: $8,025.04
A record released in 2001, Melody A.M. represents the debut work of the Norwegian duo Röyksopp, exponents of European electronic music capable of making an immediate impression on audiences.
The particularity that makes this recording fall among the most sought-after records and vinyls concerns above all the cover, designed by the famous street artist Bansky.
Moreover, this special version is limited to only 100 copies.
Pet Shop Boys - Yes
Sold for: $7,544.08
An object of desire for many fans, this Pet Shop Boys recording dates back to 2009. And it is thespecial edition sold on release that is so expensive.
This special version features a fine numbered box set with no less than 11 discs inside. Extremely neat packaging makes this box set a true gem of recent international music.
Charlie Patton - Love my Stuff/Jersey Bull Blues
Sold for: $7,089.36
One of the foremost exponents of the American delta blues, considered by many to be the father of the genre, Charlie Patton is one of the historic pillars of star-studded music.
This specific recording dates from around 1934, and includes the singles Love my Stuff and Jersey Bull Blues. One of the finest and oldest collectible vinyls in this collection.
